How to spice up your wardrobe

Virginia Patterson, Section Editor

The sun is shining, birds are chirping, there’s not a textbook in sight. Summertime has arrived. Your time is spent going to concerts, swimming, vacationing, and relaxing! You’re going to have a lot to do in those two months, so you might as well look good doing it! Here are a few good ways to get your wardrobe up to date for summer.

1. Think beyond florals and stripes. Everyone owns at least a floral and a striped shirt. If you’ve ever found yourself showing up at school and accidentally twinning with your friend this probably means you should expand your horizons. These styles are without a doubt cute(that’s why they’re so popular), but there’s a world of Patterns and designs out there being neglected. Try something a little more daring and unique. When paired with simple bottoms there’s no pattern you can’t handle.

2. Experiment with different shoes. Sneakers are a go-to for almost everyone. They are comfy and work with just about every outfit. For Summer try something that’s a little more out there. Maryjanes and platforms can be just as cute as sneakers and will add originality to an otherwise basic look. Trying different socks and tights will help transition these shoes into any wardrobe.

3. Shop somewhere new. Going to the same store can put anyone in a fashion rut. When you’re exposed to different styles you can try new things. Try going to a vintage store. They will have clothes from all eras bringing greater variety and options. My recommendations are Red Light Vintage 4560 University Way NE, Seattle, WA 98105 and Lucky Vintage 4742 University Way NE, Seattle, WA 98105. These shops are inexpensive and have styles from the 50’s to the 2000’s, so you can step outside the box as little or as much as you want.

The most important thing about fashion is you. Wear what you want and what makes you feel good. Fashion is about self expression so be yourself and wear what makes you happy this Summer.
